A State of Vine

STATE OF VID To create a documentary film about wine, it is necessary to traverse the width of the CA wine area, including if it is 110 degrees and heading to a dry road, rocky mountain without a vineyard in sight.

We thought we'd compile the interviews and stories by our scheme and shoot "fill in the blanks" with a narration track upon completion of principal photography. We were surprised to find that participants in our film, said things in the history of "Wine" as well, no need to add another word. We decided to produce this documentary because very little has been done in this industry giant, whose annual contribution the U.S. economy is approximately five times higher than the film industry and is growing constantly. The 1995 romantic movie "A Walk in the Clouds was a remake of a 1942 Italian film, "Quattro Passi Fra Le Nuvole" and incorporated some delightful environment in Napa A tale of two lovers country mismatch wine. The disparate and often blurred photograph of the 2004 film "Sideways" had "legs" similar to a glass of vintage high voltage, and dealt a blow to the wine merlot, pinot noir while raising to new heights.

However, Randy Pitts, owner and winemaker Harvest Moon Vineyards in Sonoma County Russian River Valley, dismissed the merlot / pinot nonsense in a spontaneous thought. Mario Andretti was our beautiful celebrity types, along with his winemaker, Bob Pepi, himself a legendary name in wine circles. Andretti dances around their vineyards with pure joy, "a piece of land of God," he explains. A highlight for me was interviewing Renaldo Robledo and his adorable younger daughter, Vanessa, the president of his family winery, the first property of a Mexican immigrant. His story is that of the "American Dream" and updated every day. Renaldo accent is heavy, and Vanessa does most of the expression and oral translation, but not really necessary – your beautiful smile reflects his pride in their land, their children and their wine. The large number of them, two daughters, seven sons, wives and husbands, in laws – are all involved in the business and his joy is contagious. Ernie Weir of Hagafen Cellars spent some time in the world to introduce a kosher winery. He was deeply spiritual and very pragmatic in their relationship with their grapes and the land and creating art projects in wine and in creating a market for than wine.

We fell in love with veteran publicist Harvey Posert wine, long-term public relations for Robert Mondavi and now Bronco – Company of Franzia – during lunch. We tried the tomato bisque soup, boiled eggs and the best deli sandwiches in Napa, while spilling the beans on what happens "in" wine country, as nosh with a view to his vineyard of 100 cases. "Too much to drink, not enough to sell," he said. Pat Roney, artisanal winery owner Girard and now the popular Windsor winery, we took his Howell Mountain vineyards to show the ravages of a fire that ripped the vineyard the day before and explained that take the glitz and glamor of the tasting room, and is an "ag-based" business.

Not a one person we interviewed had a wine snob wit "about them, but we managed to cover this topic in some depth. They love to eat and drink, tell stories, walk their vineyards, dance with Mother Nature and reap the joys of being a real player in the wine country, an enviable lifestyle that requires a great deal of hard work.

By the time we completed our shooting, and we sat in our literature review of hours of images and anecdotes, I had the distinct impression that each of them would be a fabulous host on the same dinner. I began to wonder what each person bring to the table if they were asked to carry a varietal and a plate. I divide the courses from hor d'oeuvres to dessert, write them on sheets of paper and folded up as we do every year for Christmas Pollyanna. Secrecy and confidentiality would be of great importance, of course, until the big day. Would not that just be the winemaker dinner the decade?

Maybe I'll try to put this show together and use if as a sequel to our movie. And while enjoying the food we give away each one with a story – I do not think it could be much better than this!
