Oxnard Ideal base for visiting Ventura County
The name "Oxnard" does not really leave the language as Catalina, La Jolla and Coronado, but the city called Oxnard are claimed some of the statewide open, accessible beaches and a host of attractions that make it definitely worth considered as a base for your getaway to the beach next to the Golden State.
Although this part of Southern California has plenty of sun, sand and landscape prices for a getaway from Oxnard are likely to be a little less than the most famous beach communities. And in the current economic climate, which becomes a consideration important to many families who do not want to dispense altogether with their escapades, but also want to be cautious about costs. Drive 60 miles northwest of Los Angeles help to lower costs.
Do not let the appearance of nearby Oxnard and feeling deceived. Oxnard is a rather lively suburban city located in the center so you can visit attractions such as the Reagan Library, Paramount Ranch or nearby cities such as Ventura and Santa Barbara. And about seven miles Our location near Highway 101 was the beach and near the Channel Islands Harbor.
When you visit Oxnard, the main attraction is the beach – a place we have visited on several occasions and never seen more than a few families and the Internet, scattered over a vast expanse of sand. While the surf can get a bit busy by the angle of the beach to the sea, that's just another advantage for people who prefer some action of the waves. By exploring the area, have begun to understand note that there are plenty of upscale homes along the beach areas and lots of public parks and access points.
You want to check out Hollywood Beach, where Clark Gable once lived and where Rudolph Valentino filmed a movie. In fact, movies like Spartacus, only you, is mad, Mad World, Pee Wee Big Adventure and Back to the Future were filmed in Hollywood Beach.
McGrath State Beach is where birders flock, and especially enjoy the Mandalay Beach dunes where also find jogging trails, volleyball courts and BBQ areas – a kind of Venice Beach for families every day.
Down at Fisherman's Wharf enjoy browsing the Ventura County Maritime Museum, with its extensive collection of antique sailing ship models, maritime paintings and several sea-themed exhibitions. There are also restaurants and shops facing the sea in this part of Harbor Island Channel.
After checking the nearby attractions, we spent a little time with sunbathing by the pool at the Courtyard Marriott Oxnard Ventura, a hotel with all amenities that appeal to leisure travelers and businesses. Our king suite, with two rooms large, gave us plenty of room to stretch and was especially convenient for us because we were to combine business with pleasure – a nine-year age could not wait to turn the explosion of a Disney movie fills and a father who had business to conduct, while on the road. Solution: separate the suite on one side of the company and a boy side. If you have a smaller room, the hotel has developed a business center where you can work uninterrupted.
It is also noted that the Yard has done an excellent job updating all the furniture and accessories in the rooms an elegant system using color and offers extras such as televisions 32 inch flat screen, Internet access and plenty of desk space if, like me, you have to do a little work in the meantime, go unpunished. The new fitness center, pool, lobby and service areas are all first rate and in keeping with Marriott excellent reputation in the hospitality industry. Also, do not miss the buffet at the hotel offers a full breakfast each morning – it's an amazing variety of hot and cold dishes for a reasonable offer price.
This court is, in fact, a little larger than most I've seen, and all rooms are very spacious. The Plaza Grill restaurant offers breakfast, while Lunch and dinner are served in the lounge, which is also a popular place for business travelers gather in the afternoon. The location is especially good if you To use his stay in Oxnard visit cities and attractions nearby. It's quick to get on the highway north to Ventura and Santa Barbara, or south to the Reagan Library Paramount Ranch.
Paramount Ranch was on our list of must-see on this trip because I had always wanted to visit a ranch movie – a place where they filmed westerns back in boom times that genre. Paramount Studios bought the 2,700-acre ranch in 1927 and proceeded to use it in the decades of major films the film with many top-name stars of the 30's, 40's and 50's. Among the movies filmed on the ranch Duel at the OK Corral, The streets of Laredo, The Virginian, and Hopalong Cassidy Returns.
Paramount Ranch was later used for television shows such as The Cisco Kid, Have Gun Will Travel, The Rifleman, Bat Masterson and, more recently, Charlie's Angels, Chips, Dukes of Hazzard, Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, and Diagnosis Murder.
Today being the film at the ranch, but is also available as a playground where you can take hiking or just go to the child prodigies in some great scenery mountains of Santa Monica. The centerpiece of the ranch is the western city that you can walk through and imagine what it is when being filmed a western with all the actors in costume, livestock and extras.
If you plan ahead, you can use Oxnard as its jumping off point for a trip to National Park Channel Islands – or half day trips are offered. These islands are great near the coast, visitors will find they are completely isolated after the boat leaves for a camping trip in one of the islands.
If you want to go out into the water, kayaks, pedal boats and motor boats are available for rent in the port of the Channel Islands. During winter and early spring can take whale watching trips out of the port and you can go fishing or enjoy dolphin and other life at any time of year.
Wine lovers will enjoy the Wine Route Ventura County, a progression of several different warehouses, are relatively close and a map for visitors to follow.
Half-hour drive east of Oxnard and find the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, which made a point to visit in Simi Valley. The library has a fascinating collection of artifacts, photographs and documents that help us learn more about our former president.
The most spectacular display in the library is that the Air Force One, the plane used to fly Reagan in his historic voyages around the world.
