How many Wine Spectator Awards of Excellence are given in a year?

I'm not entirely sure but I think that must be applied and then you review. I've been in dozens (perhaps 100), about restaurants that have been given the prize for what is a mark of a good place, but not that rare. The Grand Award of Excellence is much more difficult to find.
